AMD extends Opteron family
The AMD Opteron™ product family now has two new members The AMD Opteron™ product family now has two new members; raising the bar for power efficiency even further! When compared to 65nm AMD Quad-Core Opterons operating at the same frequency, the new Quad-Core Opteron EE Series can save up to 36% of power on platform level while raising performance significantly higher. For example, performance per watt measured in SPECpower_ssj™2008 improves by up to 62% with the AMD Opteron 2377 EE.
Nowadays energy represents a large portion of a server TCO. The increased power saving efficiencies of the enhanced EE series Opteron can help to reduce energy consumption (based on an average computing power (ACP) of 40W), and quickly show a clear Return On Investment.
Due for release on the 22nd April, the EE series Quad-Core AMD Opteron is ideal for markets such as cloud computing, hosting and web serving, where there is a sensitivity to power draw.

As with the new high-end AMD Opterons in 2.8 and 2.9GHz, these CPUs also take advantage of our latest high-bandwidth Hypertransport 3 (HT3) interconnectivity. Boards supporting DDPM will show the highest benefit by supplying optimal voltages for all building blocks used in our new 45nm AMD Quad-Core Opterons™.
